Different types of television – Samsung is still the No. 1 choice

There are many different kinds of televisions available in the market today, but Samsung is one brand that has stood the test of time and continues to offer innovative technologies for entertainment. Following is a list of the different types of TVs presently on offer, and the technology running them.

·         Flat Panel television – Also known in common parlance as a flat-screen, this type of television is the most basic one available in the present times. It is thinner and lighter than the conventional television.
·         LCD television – Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) televisions are the most popular technology, one of the main reasons of the same being better picture quality than flat-screens at an affordable price. They are thinner and lighter than flat-screen televisions, and also come in larger sizes to suit the requirements of the buyer.
·         Plasma television – This type of television has millions of cells residing in a compartmentalized space between two glass panels. Each pixel is made of three of these cells, which contain the primary colours. As the voltage of the signals varies, the screen displays different colours which make up the picture.
·         LED television – LED TVs are basically 'LED-backlit LCD TVs', and Samsung was among the first ones to introduce this technology, with the provision of offering 3D display in regular broadcasts as well. It is currently the most advanced type of television, and also gives the best picture quality.

Buying an LCD TV – What to keep in mind

Following are two primary considerations for buying an LCD TV for all purposes.

An LCD TV's contrast ratio is the factor determining how bright will a frame be, and how much of a contrast can it deliver at the maximum. The rating is based on the luminance of the brightest colour, i.e., white, compared to the same of the darkest colour, black. So, an LCD TV having a contrast ration of 500:1 would mean that the colour white on the screen would look 500 times as bright as black. One must be more concerned about the dynamic contrast ratio, and not the static contrast one, since the former represents a real time picture, while the latter is the measure of a single frame. The best ratio for all kinds of homes is 5000:1, while rooms that do not have much lighting can also do well with a 1000:1 ratio.

The display resolution is another important aspect to be kept in mind. It is a common fact that a majority of the LCD TVs have HD capabilities, but not all are equal in their performance. One needs to be familiar with 4 basic resolutions. There are two categories, -i and -p. A TV with 1080p resolution will display a picture at 1920 x 1080, and use progressive scan to improve the quality, while a TV with 1080i resolution will do the same using an interlaced video codec. The former is a better choice in this case.

Samsung LCD Television: The Definition of Innovation

Innovation is the name of the game with Samsung LCD televisions, as each model speaks for itself regarding the amount of effort that has gone into creating such a masterpiece. Having a host of features that were never before seen or experienced by Indian audiences, they have emerged as a clear winner across all kinds of markets. To begin with, the provision to convert 2D images into a 3D theater like phenomenon was a distinct first mover advantage for the brand, giving a larger than life feeling in everyday television viewing. That in itself was enough to mark the arrival of a winner.

This was well complemented by numerous other features like the Full HD 1080P display screen that ensured only the best quality High-Definition viewing that was, in most of the cases, a few notches above regular HDTV. The Internet@TV feature is another gem for viewers to connect the television to the internet and even use it for video conferencing. And as far as connectivity is concerned, the All Share feature gives a sound platform for exchange of music, videos and photos between a television, mobile phone and PC wirelessly. There are also so many other unique features that it's impossible to list them all at one place. To know why it's such a great buy, all you need to do is stand in front of a Samsung LCD TV and switch on the magic!
